Standard AA Banner vs. Site-Unique Showcase

Okay, the banner at the top of every page is lovely. Curving stream, line of Lombardy Poplar at the horizon, blue sky dotted with clouds. No complaints. It may even be a required (by ning) standard, or choice of standard, banner styles.
Here's my question/suggestion -
what if we had a banner contest, or perhaps just a monthly submission/selection of a new banner art or photo by members of the individual sites? So Sara has theirs, Bradenton, St Pete - and so on. Each site gives recognition to the photo/art contribution of its membership every month - by changing the featured banner. Obviously we're just talking background here - because we'd keep the "AnythingArts.com . . . your souce" etc.
So is this a possibility, fearless leaders?
And if so, how do we involve everyone in the project?
